“It took drowning for me to realize I could swim, and though I swam slowly I realized I could still help others learn to float.”
Hi, I’m GV Rioz, the voice and writer behind PoetryWithMe.
I created this space as a way to have an outlet for all of my anxious and sad energy that was surrounding and consuming me. I found that I burrow inside of myself when I am sad, and I needed a creative space to build around my own vulnerabilities so that I could find the right words when I needed to.
My journey as a writer began back in 2022. I had this itch, this need to write out what I was feeling and that is where my first character, Itzel, was created. You have not heard about her yet but I am hoping you will soon, she will be a part of a short series, If Tomorrow Never Comes.
But while writing her all those years ago I found little strips of words sticking in my brain, scribbled on notes, scattered in between letters to myself, and so I started putting them all on a Word Doc. After a few months of adding to this I realized I had something tangible, something that could be shared. But I didn’t really think it through until I was introduced to Amazon KDP, where I self-published my poetry book,
I Gave You My Heart.
I worked diligently to create something you could hold and breathe in. You could pace and feel. I took pictures of gardens on trips and added them to the book so you could not only read but truly see through my eyes.
This next chapter of my writing journey is teaching me patience, perseverance, and the courage to keep pursuing a dream even as it continues to take shape.
Outside of my creative work, I’m pursuing a degree in Communication with a concentration in Professional Writing with a minor in creative writing. I’m passionate about storytelling, the power of language, and the ways words can help us understand ourselves and connect with one another.
Through PoetryWithMe, I hope to offer readers a place to pause, feel understood, and find comfort in knowing they aren’t alone. I may still be learning to navigate my own waters, but I believe we don’t have to have all the answers to help someone else through theirs.
Thank you for being here and allowing my words to be a little part of your journey.
Let’s find the words together. 🖤
With Love,
GV Rioz
